Aviva Marble (pty)ltd was established in 1991 . The founder and current chairman, Mr Philip Janse van Rensburg, started the company with his daughter, Elbie Joubert and son-in-law Johann Joubert. The company started in a small factory in Kobus street, Silverton, Pretoria.

For the first year the family kept running a steel construction company while they were experimenting, after hours, with the cutting of natural stone. After a full year of experimenting it was time to launch Aviva Marble. The official launch took place at the Interbuilt 1992 exhibition at the Johannesburg fair grounds.

The initial reaction to the Aviva ranges were mixed as the products were superior and fresh but too expensive for an under developed market. For the next six years Aviva was forced to manufacture kitchen tops, vanities and furniture as the bread and butter ranges of the company. Only in 1998 were they able to stop the manufacturing of slabs and concentrate solely on listellos, dados and inlay designs.

Since then Aviva has been involved in projects like, Gold Reef City Hotel and Casino, Boardwalk Casino, Grand West Casino, Monte Casino and many other high level developments.

From the start Aviva Marble decided to be loyal to the tile retailers who are their main customers. A gentleman's agreement was reached with the tile dealers that Aviva would not sell directly to the public. This paid off for them as they also won the loyalty of their customers. Not only is Aviva the market leaders but this company is renowned for its excellence in quality as well as service.

The one thing that Aviva Marble has been able to accomplish was to stay ahead of their competitors through new and innovative ideas and designs. The feeling has always been that competition is a good thing. It helps the company to stay on their toes and to always produce the goods when neccesary.

Aviva Marble and its employees love a challenge. They have a "no quit" attitude and will rather try and come up with a solution than to say "we can't do it". This is yet another reason why their customers are so loyal.

In their quest to reward loyalty Aviva appointed Ilana Stanworth as a director of the company. Ilana has been with the company for over a decade and is seen as part of the family. Another loyalty reward is the Aviva - Mission to the Mall competition where reps from the different tile dealers are rewarded for orders placed throughout the year. Every year Aviva gives away over R30000 in gift vouchers to the top 10 finishers in this competition.

If you haven't been involved with Aviva, yet, it might be a good idea to try them. You might just be pleasantly surprised...
